Dichroic Jewellery
Dichroic fused glass is a glass that has been treated in a laboratory.
The process is called vapour deposition where titanium is vapourised
in a special chamber at very high temperatuires along with the glass.
When the material vapourises the glass is coated with a very thin
layer which creates the dichroic coating on the surface that changes
colour.
Glass fusing is the art of heating two or more pieces of glass inside
a kiln to melting temperature. When the glass softens, separate layers
merge. Glass fusing was practised by the Romans and Egyptians 4000
years ago and remained lost until recently.
